What is Tune My Heart?

I have been wanting (and meaning) to start writing again for a while but I wasn’t making time to do it.

Then a little over two weeks ago my parents were in a head-on collision with a dump truck that crossed the center line on a two-lane road (more on that later). During these weeks, I been in constant conversation with God — surrendering, questioning, pleading, and trusting. In and through it all, passages from the Bible and lyrics from songs I’ve loved and that have fueled my prayers over the course of my life have resurfaced and are taking up residence in my mind and heart, starting with the hymn that Tune My Heart comes from —

“Come Thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by Thy help I've come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood

Oh to grace how great a debtor, daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, Oh take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above”

“Come Thou Fount” — Robert Robinson (my favorite version is on All I Can Say by David Crowder Band) {listen here}

Tune My Heart was borne out of my want to chronicle my prayers for my parents as they journey toward healing, coupled with the songs and Bible passages that keep my wandering heart fixed on Him through it all.

I also intend for it to be a record — of the way I and my family continue to see God’s provision, protection, lovingkindness and faithfulness, the way worship creates an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to move in my heart and change me, and anything else that resonates.

While this will be an outlet for me I’d also love for it to be a place for conversation, empathy, and growth. And if it evolves into something more, I am here for it! Collaborations, guest writers, and other contributors? Sure! A weekly series? You bet!

I plan to post weekly, to start. But as this is mainly an outlet for my thoughts and prayers, I may post more often. I expect this collection of content to be a little eclectic — for my own sanity if nothing else:

  • Bible passages, prayers, song lyrics

  • Things I’m thinking about

  • Things that resonate with me

  • Books

  • Some humor and fun

Why subscribe?

I will link new (main) posts to my Instagram page but we all know that social media algorithms have a hand in what comes across our feeds. Subscribing to Tune My Heart will ensure new posts get delivered directly to your inbox and will help cut through the noise of social media and everything else that fights for our attention.

For now, content is free. If I ever decide to move to a paid subscription model, I will work through that change with existing subscribers at that time.
