I can’t think of any other single thing I’ve done in the last four years that has had as big an impact on my life, perspective, and overall contentedness and joy as reading through the Bible with The Bible Recap (TBR) has.
My first trip through the Bible with TBR and its creator — Tara-Leigh Cobble — was in 2020. It was a lifeline and absolute game-changer for me during that crazy year! From leaving a job I loved, moving, and the pandemic — with all of its challenges and upheavals — to the ridiculousness of Donald Trump and the 2020 election, learning more about God and His faithfulness and character helped ground me and lift my eyes from eartly things.
TBR helped me to read and understand the Bible and the story and character of God in a way I never had before — even with growing up in church, attending a Christian school, participating in and leading countless small group Bible studies, coaching small group leaders, and reading through the Bible before.
After reading through the Bible with TBR in 2020, I participated again in 2021.
In 2022, I planned to spend two days on each reading but I missed the consistency of the daily readings. So in September of that year, I went back to spending only one day on each reading, and I finished again in the spring of 2023. I’m starting again on January 1, 2024, for my fourth time through.
In reading the Bible and supplementing it with The Bible Recap, I learned to bend my life around what Scripture says rather than bending Scripture around my life. I learned what breaks God’s heart. I learned what makes Him happy. I learned who and what He values. I learned that He is my Source, Supply, and Goal. I learned that what He initiates, He also sustains and fulfills. And I learned that even when I don’t — or can’t — understand Him or His ways, He is always good!
I would love for you to join me on January 1st! The committment is only about 30 minutes a day: 20 minutes of Bible reading and 8-10 minutes of the daily recap, via podcast or YouTube video. The daily recap was the game-changer for me; Tara-Leigh Cobble’s words, communication style, and dedicated emphasis on the metanarrative of the Bible — on fixing my eyes on God (who He is, what He does, what He loves, what He hates) — changed me.
I’m sure some of what I read in the coming year will inspire content on Tune My Heart so look for more in 2024!
If any of you opt to read along with me and The Bible Recap — whether you start on 1/1/24, or any other time — I’d love to hear from you! So please comment below! And please let me know if you have any questions — I’m no expert but I would love to help in any way I can!
