I’ve been reading This Changes Everything by Tyler Merritt during the course of this last week. “Reading” is actually not the right word; I’ve been devouring it! Tyler Merritt is a truth-teller and I’ve absolutely hitched my horse to his wagon (his first book, I Take My Coffee Black is next on my “to read” list). He laments, he celebrates, and he tells his story with wisdom, grace, strength, and laugher.
The video excerpt below from Chapter 10 of Merritt’s This Changes Everything is riveting, so very timely, and it describes the single thing that most breaks my heart.
“I know in our current cultural climate, even using the word ‘Christian’ can be off-putting and honestly, this makes me angry. I feel like something very personal and important to me: my faith, Jesus, Christianity—has been hijacked in the past several years. It’s been stolen. It’s been co-opted. Or maybe the right term is that it’s been vandalized. To the point that when a lot of people, when they even hear someone start to talk about Jesus, they shut down.”
