Here is Our King
“From wherever spring arrives
To heal the ground
From wherever searching comes the look itself
A trace of what we're looking for
So be quiet now and wait
The ocean is growing
The tide is coming in
Here it is
Here is our King, here is our love
Here is our God Who's come
To bring us back to Him
He is the One, He is Jesus, Jesus
And what was said to the rose
To make it unfold
Was said to me here in my chest
So be quiet now and rest
The ocean is growing
The tide is coming in
Here it is
Here is our King, here is our love
Here is our God Who's come
To bring us back to Him
He is the One, He is Jesus, Jesus
Majesty, finally
Majesty, finally here
Here is our King, here is our love
Here is our God Who's come
To bring us back to Him
He is the One, He is Jesus, Jesus
Majesty, finally”

Andy Stanley posted a link to the message below on Instagram last Monday morning. Given that I did a lot of growing up in my early 20s at North Point Community Church — both with Andy’s teaching + involvement in leading and learning from small groups, coaching small group leaders, and serving in the middle school ministry for three years — I have a sweet spot for Andy and for his ministry (and writing). It’s been such a joy to be a part of NPCC — even virtually here and there since 2007, when I left Atlanta to attend graduate school — and I still so appreciate Andy’s commitment to teaching the Truth with grace and the way he often leans into the hard things.
Anyway, I listened to Andy’s message yesterday morning while on the treadmill at the gym and oh my goodness! I highly recommend listening or watching (start at the 15:30 mark if you want to skip the praise and worship at the beginning, though it is soooo good).
If I could play any words over a loudspeaker for the entire world to hear, these from Andy top my list. Seriously.
Not only does Andy’s message speak to and address some of my own issues with the church and some of the people in it, it also sheds such a light on the story of the Early Church and how they got it wrong. And then how they eventually got it right! Given all of the history and context around the development of the Early Church and how Jesus’s call and commission upended the Law and many centuries of abiding by those very specific laws and ordinances, I get it. We all get it wrong sometimes. I’m praying, though, that I’ll learn to rely on Jesus’s presence in me to help me get it right more often than I get it wrong.
I’m not going to say much else, just because there’s no need; Andy’s words are all that is necessary.
Except: Jesus is King — “Majesty, finally” as the lyrics of today’s song sing! And though I am heartbroken, angry, confused, and frustrated at what’s going on in our country, my hope is in Him alone. He will make all things new!
